Airbus Defence and Space has officially implemented a new organizational structure effective July 1, 2025, as part of a wider adaptation plan first announced in October 2024. The restructuring comes in response to persistent challenges in the business environment, particularly in the Space Systems segment, which saw major financial charges in both 2023 and 2024.

The company has finalized its information and consultation process with employee representatives across national and European levels, reaching agreements with social partners on the changes ahead. As part of the restructuring, up to 2,043 positions are expected to be cut, mainly targeting overhead and management functions.

The reorganization aims to streamline operations and provide clearer accountability across the division’s three main business lines: Air Power, Space Systems, and Connected Intelligence. The new model is designed to improve responsiveness to shifting defense and security demands and align with increased military spending in Europe.

Airbus Defence and Space CEO Mike Schoellhorn acknowledged the sensitivity of workforce changes, noting that “navigating organisational change is never straightforward,” but emphasized the need for a faster and more resilient defense sector in the current geopolitical context. He also confirmed that no compulsory redundancies would be made and that the company would rely on available social measures to ease the transition for affected employees.
