Indian Army signs agreement to procure US Javelin anti-tank guided missiles

The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi announced that the Indian Army has signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) to procure the Javelin anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) system through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) process.

According to a statement released by the embassy, the agreement aims to expand the defense partnership between the two nations and facilitate future collaboration between the U.S. and Indian defense industries.

“This agreement reflects a defense partnership that is growing deeper, more capable, and more consequential,” said U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor. “The Javelin agreement demonstrates the depth of U.S. support for the Indian Army and creates new opportunities for our defense industries to work together. We see tremendous potential for future cooperation that strengthens the defense industrial bases of both countries.”

The Javelin is an advanced, medium-range, fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile. Jointly produced by U.S. defense contractors Lockheed Martin and RTX, the system is utilized by the U.S. Army, the U.S. Marine Corps, and various international customers to engage armored vehicles and fortified positions.

The Indian Ministry of Defense has not yet issued an official statement regarding the procurement agreement.
