At the Paris Air Show, Leonardo and Bombardier Defense announced the signing of a non-exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at assessing new opportunities in the global Maritime Multi-Mission Aircraft (MMA) market.
Under this agreement, the two companies will explore the integration of selected Leonardo mission systems—particularly the ATOS system and a suite of customizable sensors—into Bombardier’s Global 6500 twin-engine jet platform. The collaboration seeks to address rising demand for advanced maritime surveillance and patrol capabilities by offering a next-generation MMA solution.
By combining Leonardo’s expertise in integrated mission systems and sensors with Bombardier’s high-performing aircraft platform, the potential offering would deliver a versatile surveillance solution tailored to meet stringent operational requirements. The proposed platform could feature a full suite of maritime sensors, self-protection systems, and acoustic capabilities, enabling a wide range of defense, security, and humanitarian missions.
Leonardo has a long track record of delivering mission systems and sensor packages across both proprietary and non-proprietary fixed and rotary-wing platforms. Bombardier Defense, for its part, brings deep experience in special mission aircraft, having delivered over 500 modified platforms for governments and defense customers worldwide.
The collaboration positions both companies to respond to global customers’ evolving needs in the maritime domain, offering a flexible and integrated airborne solution that supports complex multi-domain operations.
