{"id":356235,"date":"2025-04-29T18:30:30","date_gmt":"2025-04-29T15:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/defensehere.com\/?p=356235"},"modified":"2025-04-29T18:30:30","modified_gmt":"2025-04-29T15:30:30","slug":"u-s-approves-patriot-sale-to-romania","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/defensehere.com\/en\/u-s-approves-patriot-sale-to-romania\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. approves potential $280M PATRIOT sale to Romania"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\" data-start=\"280\" data-end=\"552\">The U.S. State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Romania of a PATRIOT Air Defense System and related equipment for an estimated cost of $280 million, according to a notification by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"554\" data-end=\"592\">Romania has requested the purchase of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"595\" data-end=\"656\">One (1) AN\/MPQ-65 Configuration 3+ Increment 3 radar set,<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"659\" data-end=\"709\">One (1) AN\/MSQ-132 Engagement Control Station,<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"712\" data-end=\"748\">Two (2) M903 launching stations,<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"751\" data-end=\"858\">One (1) Electrical Power Plant (EPP) III, as well as non-Major Defense Equipment (MDE) items including:<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"861\" data-end=\"897\">Launching station modification kits,<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"900\" data-end=\"958\">PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement launcher conversion kit,<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"961\" data-end=\"988\">Generators and spare parts,<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"991\" data-end=\"1026\">Prime movers and their spare parts,<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1029\" data-end=\"1058\">Encryptors (KG-250X, KIV-77),<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1061\" data-end=\"1086\">IFF system (AN\/TPX-57v1),<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1089\" data-end=\"1132\">Personnel communication training equipment,<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1135\" data-end=\"1174\">DAGRs (Defense Advanced GPS Receivers),<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1177\" data-end=\"1311\">Technical assistance, logistics and engineering support, classified software, publications, and related elements of logistics support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1313\" data-end=\"1420\">The principal contractors will be RTX Corporation (Andover, MA) and Lockheed Martin (Bethesda, MD).<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1422\" data-end=\"1449\">The DSCA emphasized that:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1452\" data-end=\"1680\">&#8220;This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO Ally that is an important force for political and economic stability in Europe.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1682\" data-end=\"1698\">It also noted:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1701\" data-end=\"1901\">&#8220;The proposed sale will improve Romania\u2019s capability to meet current and future threats by enabling it to field a credible force to deter adversaries and support its participation in NATO operations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1903\" data-end=\"2032\">Romania is expected to integrate the system without difficulty. The sale will not alter the basic military balance in the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2034\" data-end=\"2214\">Implementation will require approximately five U.S. Government and five contractor representatives to support fielding and training activities in Romania for up to three years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2216\" data-end=\"2288\">There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness from the sale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2290\" data-end=\"2466\">The description and cost represent the highest estimated value; final agreements may result in lower actual costs depending on finalized requirements and budget authorizations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Romania of a PATRIOT Air Defense System and related equipment for an estimated cost of $280 million, according to a notification by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).
