The U.S. State Department has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to Japan for Hyper-Velocity Gliding Projectiles (HVGP) Capability Support, as announced by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).
The sale includes HVGPs, launchers, ground support equipment, and related technical support. It also covers software development, integration, personnel training, and logistical support to enhance Japan’s defense capabilities.
According to the DSCA, the proposed sale supports U.S. foreign policy and national security by strengthening Japan’s defense capabilities as a key ally in the Indo-Pacific region. The HVGPs will improve Japan’s ability to defend its homeland and deter regional threats.
The primary contractor for the project has not yet been determined. The sale will also require U.S. government and contractor personnel to provide on-site training and technical assistance.
The U.S. Congress has been notified of the proposed sale, which will now undergo further review before final approval.
