Ukraine completes testing of first indigenous guided aerial bomb

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence has announced that its first domestically developed guided aerial bomb has successfully completed all required testing and is now ready for combat deployment, marking a further step in the country’s effort to expand indigenous precision-strike capabilities during the ongoing war.

The ministry said the weapon was developed by a participant in the “Brave1” defence technology initiative, with early-stage support provided through a government grant as part of Ukraine’s push to accelerate domestic defence production.

A guided aerial bomb is an air-launched munition equipped with navigation, guidance and aerodynamic control systems designed to improve strike accuracy compared with conventional unguided bombs. According to the ministry, the system enables aircraft to release munitions from distances of several dozen kilometres outside the range of enemy air defences.

The Ministry of Defence stated that the system is not a copy of Western or Soviet-era designs, but was developed by Ukrainian engineers over a period of 17 months in line with the requirements of modern high-intensity warfare.

Ukrainian Minister of Defence Mykhailo Fedorov said Ukraine is shifting from importing individual solutions to building domestically developed high-tech weapons that enhance the capabilities of its armed forces and provide technological advantage on the battlefield.

He added that the new guided aerial bomb will soon be used against enemy targets, noting that Ukraine is scaling systems designed to extend strike range and improve precision.

The weapon carries a 250 kg-class warhead and is intended for use against fortified positions, command centres and other high-value targets located dozens of kilometres behind front-line positions. The Ministry of Defence said an initial experimental batch has already been procured.

According to the ministry, Ukrainian pilots are currently conducting training and combat-scenario exercises to expand operational use of the system, with its combat debut expected in the near term.

Officials described the guided aerial bomb as an important domestic capability designed to counter enemy advances and strengthen Ukraine’s ability to develop and scale advanced military technologies.
