UK announces £752 million military support package for Ukraine including 150,000 drones

The United Kingdom has announced a new £752 million military assistance package for Ukraine that will deliver 150,000 drones, more than 350 air defence missiles, and radar systems to support Kyiv’s defence against ongoing Russian attacks.

The package is funded through the UK’s £2.26 billion Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) loan to Ukraine, backed by proceeds generated from immobilised Russian sovereign assets. According to the UK government, the support is designed to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to defend its sovereignty and protect civilian infrastructure from continued missile and drone strikes.

Under the package, the UK will supply 150,000 drones by the end of 2026, alongside more than 350 air defence missiles and radar systems, including Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMM) and ground-based radar capabilities. The UK Ministry of Defence said the equipment addresses urgent operational requirements and will enhance Ukraine’s ability to counter Russian aerial threats.

The announcement was made by UK Defence Secretary Dan Jarvis during meetings in Brussels, where he attended the NATO Defence Ministers’ Meeting and the 35th session of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG). Jarvis also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss continued military assistance and broader efforts to increase pressure on Russia.

The military support package follows commitments announced by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the G7 Summit earlier this week, including £210 million in UK Export Finance support for Ukraine’s nuclear energy sector and a new sanctions package targeting Russia’s shadow fleet, defence procurement networks, and illicit financial activities.

“It is a privilege to attend my first NATO Defence Ministers meeting and host the vital Ukraine Defence Contact Group with Germany,” Jarvis said. “For 75 years, NATO has been the cornerstone of the UK’s security. My priorities are to strengthen the alliance’s deterrence and defence, and continue to support Ukraine as they defend their nation against Russia’s brutal war of aggression.”

He added that the newly announced package would help protect Ukrainian civilians from Russian missile and drone attacks while reinforcing Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.

UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves also reaffirmed Britain’s commitment to supporting Ukraine.

“This funding is helping deliver the vital military equipment Ukraine needs as it defends itself against Russia’s unprovoked war,” Reeves said. “Our support for Ukraine is steadfast. I am proud that we are providing vital support, and we will continue to do all we can to keep pressure on Russia.”

The Ministry of Defence said the package will not only strengthen Ukraine’s air defence network but also support domestic defence production and help sustain battlefield momentum into the coming winter.

During the NATO meetings, Jarvis also confirmed that the UK will assume command of the Multinational Force for Ukraine (MNF-U) Headquarters. Major General Tom Bateman will take command next month at the rank of Lieutenant General, overseeing multinational efforts to coordinate military support and contribute to the long-term regeneration of Ukraine’s armed forces.

The Ukraine Defence Contact Group, co-chaired by the United Kingdom and Germany, brings together nearly 50 nations to coordinate military assistance and address Ukraine’s immediate and future defence requirements.

Alongside support for Ukraine, Jarvis held discussions with defence counterparts from the United States, France, Germany, Norway, Estonia, Denmark, Finland and Ukraine. The UK also agreed with Germany and Norway to deepen cooperation on anti-submarine warfare operations in the High North and North Atlantic regions.

The UK government said the latest support package reflects its NATO-first defence policy and forms part of broader efforts to strengthen European security, support Ukraine’s defence, and invest in future military capabilities.
