Sweden to provide $7.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine by 2027

Sweden has pledged 70 billion kronor ($7.5 billion) in military aid to Ukraine by 2027, outlining a long-term support plan that includes artillery systems, ammunition, and radar capabilities.

At a press conference, Defense Minister Pål Jonson said Ukraine remains Sweden’s top foreign policy priority and described the new measures as part of a framework for sustained assistance. He noted that reinforcing Ukraine’s naval defenses is directly tied to strengthening Sweden’s own security.

The latest package, worth 9.2 billion kronor ($928 million), adds to earlier commitments and expands Stockholm’s contribution in cooperation with Kyiv and international partners.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the announcement, calling it “a significant contribution to the security of our continent.” In a statement on Telegram, he added: “The new package and commitment to extend long-term support are thus a significant contribution to the security of our continent. It is equally important to maintain the tempo and implement all joint initiatives aimed at bringing guaranteed peace.”

Sweden has steadily increased its military support for Ukraine since 2022. In March, Stockholm unveiled its largest single package, valued at $1.6 billion, which included funding for equipment from Swedish, Nordic, and European defense industries as well as contributions to international funds and direct donations from the Swedish Armed Forces. With the latest announcement, Sweden’s cumulative support now surpasses $7.6 billion.
