STM was established in 1991 with the decision of the Defense Industry Executive Committee (SSİK) to provide project management, system engineering, technology transfer, technical and logistic support and consultancy services to the Presidency of Defense Industries and the Turkish Armed Forces in areas that require high technology for Turkey’s national security.
STM, one of the largest defense industry companies in Turkey, contributes to the competitiveness of the Turkish defense industry in the global market and carries out export-oriented studies and projects.
The company expanded its engineering and technological capabilities by making significant investments and through the experience it gained by undertaking critical tasks for the national projects of the Turkish defense industry.
Today the company operates in a wide range of fields including military naval platforms, cyber security, tactical mini-UAV systems, radar systems, satellite technologies, command and control systems, certification and consultancy services.
Some of STMs accomplishments in 31 years:
2011 – Turkey’s first national warship, the first ship of the MİLGEM ADA class corvettes entered service
2011 – Became the main contractor in Turkey’s submarine modernization project, a first for a civilian-run company in Turkey
2015 – As the main contractor, completed the submarine modernization project, a first for a civilian-run company in Turkey
2016 – Became the first Turkish company to be the main contractor for a foreign country’s submarine modernization project
2017 – Opened Turkey’s first cyber fusion center “STM SFM”
2018 – Completed the construction of the highest tonnage military ship that Turkey has built for export
2018 – Turkey’s first portable, rotary wing attack drone system Kargu entered Turkish Armed Forces inventory
2019 – Ranked among the top 100 defense companies in the world
2019 – Started the KERNES Project, which aims to allow UAVs to deploy in GPS denied environments
2021 – Delivered integrated resilience model developed for NATO with STM Thinktech
2021 – Became the main contractor and launched Turkey’s first national frigate, TCG Istanbul (F-515)
2021 – STM made its first corvette export deal and started its construction
2021 – Exported Turkey’s first portable, rotary wing attack drone system Kargu
2022 – Delivered the testing and training ship TCG Ufuk (A-591)
