General Dynamics European Land Systems – Santa Bárbara Sistemas (GDELS-SBS) and KNDS Deutschland have entered into a joint cooperation agreement regarding a potential upgrade of the Spanish Army’s LEOPARD 2E fleet.
KNDS Deutschland, as the original equipment manufacturer and design authority for the LEOPARD 2 Main Battle Tank, and GDELS-SBS, a leading Spanish system provider for tracked and wheeled armored vehicles, are combining their technological and industrial expertise. The collaboration aims to modernize the Leopard 2E fleet for the Spanish Army, ensuring continued interoperability with other European nations that use the Leopard 2 system.
The agreement, which solidifies the longstanding cooperation between the two companies, was finalized at the end of 2024. Additionally, KNDS and GDELS have teamed up with Israeli company RAFAEL to form EuroTrophy, a joint venture based in Germany. This collaboration focuses on the production of the Trophy Active Protection System (APS), which is already a key component of the new Leopard 2 A8 standard for the German Army.
Through these efforts, GDELS-SBS is positioning itself to play a significant role in the future upgrade of the Spanish Army’s Leopard 2E fleet.
