Saab receives approval for new navigation system for Panama Canal

Saab’s latest maritime navigation system, R6 NAV NEO, has received approval from the Panama Canal Authority, the Swedish company said in a press release Friday.

This makes it the first International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS)-approved navigation system for general use in any waters which also meets the new requirements for Panama Canal transits.

“R6 NAV NEO redefines navigation precision and integrity protection. Tested to meet the rigorous accuracy requirements for monitoring ship movements during Panama Canal transits, it is an excellent addition to our navigation system portfolio,” Johanna Gustafsson, Head of Saab TransponderTech said.

The R6 NAV NEO is a versatile solution for open seas, ports and other busy waters, designed to meet the increasing demand for high-precision navigation sensors.

It is compliant with international standards as well as the Panama Canal Authority’s new requirements for a high-precision, non-portable piloting unit on the largest Neopanamax vessels during the transit.
