Patria secures Finnish order for over 100 TREMOS mortar systems

Finnish defense company Patria has secured a serial procurement agreement with the Finnish Defence Forces for over 100 TREMOS vehicle-mounted mortar systems.

According to a statement released by the company, the contract includes an option for hundreds of additional units. Deliveries are scheduled to begin this year and will continue through 2028. The agreement follows the delivery of a pre-series batch to the Finnish Army in 2025.

Developed in collaboration with the Finnish Army and the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command, the TREMOS is a mobile adaptation of traditional heavy mortar systems. Patria stated that the system’s advanced recoil technology enables its integration onto various vehicle platforms to improve battlefield mobility. The platform is designed to utilize existing in-service barrels, breeches, and ammunition, allowing operators to use established ballistic tables and simplifying maintenance and logistics.

Mikko Leino, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Defence and Weapon Systems, noted that securing Finland as the launch customer establishes a foundation for the system’s future export potential.

The serial production will be carried out at Patria’s facilities in Finland, supported by a domestic supplier network. According to the manufacturer, the employment impact of the procurement agreement is estimated to be around 130 person-years of work, supporting national security of supply.
