Otokar aims to produce armored combat vehicles in Kazakhstan

Operating in the automotive and defense industry, Turkey’s Otokar plans to manufacture armored combat vehicles in Kazakhstan.

The company, which produces commercial and military vehicles used in over 60 countries across 5 continents, has been operating in Kazakhstan since 2019 under the name Otokar Central Asia.

Headquartered in the capital, Nur Sultan, the company plans to expand in Central Asia and contribute to the growth of the regional economy by producing products that comply with NATO standards in the future.

Otokar Central Asia Board Member Ufuk Aybar stated that although they were established as a company in the region only 3 years ago, their products has been in use by the Kazakh army for a longer time.

Aybar said, “We aim to be close to our current and potential users in Central Asia, to offer appropriate solutions by understanding their needs, and to grow in the region, by centering on Kazakhstan.”

Stating that they evaluated different cooperation opportunities for the purposes of local production such as business partners, joint product development and technology transfers, Aybar said, “Currently, our priority is military vehicle production, but commercial vehicles may also be on the agenda in line with the needs of the countries in the region.”
