Lockheed Martin’s AN/TPQ-53 multi-mission radar (MMR) has been integrated into the Joint Task Force – Southern Border (JTF-SB) command and control systems, supporting U.S. Northern Command’s (USNORTHCOM) mission along the southern border.
The AN/TPQ-53’s open architecture design enables compatibility with various sensors and systems, allowing for a consolidated operational picture. This capability facilitates the rapid adoption of new software and technologies, ensuring adaptability to evolving threats.
Rick Cordaro, vice president and general manager of Radar Sensors and Systems at Lockheed Martin, stated that the radar’s deployment demonstrates collaboration between industry, government agencies, and end-users in addressing operational challenges.
The AN/TPQ-53 MMR is designed to detect and track a range of threats, including airborne and ground-based targets. It features 360-degree scanning and can be deployed in under five minutes. The system enhances situational awareness and provides rapid detection of potential threats such as unmanned aerial systems.
This integration follows recent demonstrations, including Northern Strike and Desert Guardian 1.0, which highlighted the radar’s ability to incorporate software updates and address national security requirements.
