South Korean defense giant Hanwha introduces a 2,000 tons exports version of Korean Navy's KSS-III submarine.
In an interview with defensehere.com, Hesnoo Lee, a general manager at Hanwha Naval Ship Business, he said that the KSS-III is the world's first diesel-electric submarine which is capable of launching ballistic missiles.
Lee also mentioned that the submarine is integrated with Fuel Cell Air-Independent Propulsion system (AIP) and Lithium-ion batteries, and he added that the submarine features efficient AC motors enabling much longer submerged operations.
Lee also explained that there are two KSS-III class submarines currently being operated by the Korean Navy and that there are two more under construction at the Hanwha Shipyard.
He also said they are currently pitching the exports version of the KSS-III to the Polish, Canadian and Philippine Navies. Lastly, He also underlined that is no proven 3,000 tons diesel-electric submarine in the world other than the KSS-III.
