Indra has signed its first direct contract with the Italian Ministry of Defence, marking a significant step in its collaboration with the Italian Navy. This agreement, signed at the Defence Attaché Office of the Italian Consulate General in Madrid, involves providing logistical support for the MRBR800 electronic warfare systems installed on Italy’s U212A submarines.
According to Indra’s post on social media platforms, the contract will include a range of services supporting the lifecycle of the MRBR800 systems, such as the supply of spare parts and the preparation of technical documentation. While Indra has been providing similar services for these submarines over the years, this contract is particularly notable for its direct nature, representing a formal agreement with the Italian Navy for the maintenance of these systems.
The MRBR800 system, developed by Indra, is a submarine electronic warfare system designed to enhance the tactical capabilities of its platform. It provides Electronic Support Measures (ESM), enabling the submarine to gather information from its surrounding electromagnetic spectrum in a covert and proactive manner. This ESM data is critical in helping the submarine gain situational awareness and maintain a strategic advantage over potential threats, including identifying enemy positions and assessing immediate risks.
