India has delivered a second BrahMos missile battery to the Philippines, marking a significant milestone in the country’s first major defense export agreement.
According to Indian defense sources, the second battery was shipped by sea, in contrast to the first battery, which was airlifted by the Indian Air Force in April 2024. That initial delivery involved a six-hour non-stop flight to the western Philippines, supported by civil aviation agencies.
The contract, signed in January 2022, is valued at $374.96 million and covers three shore-based anti-ship missile system (SBASMS) batteries. The missiles have a range of 290 kilometers and a top speed of Mach 2.8 (approx. 3,400 km/h).
In February 2023, 21 Philippine Navy personnel completed operator training focused on SBASMS logistics and maintenance. The contract also includes a full integrated logistics support package.
This export deal marks India’s emergence as a missile exporter and a growing defense partner in Southeast Asia. Indonesia has also expressed interest, having reportedly submitted a letter for a $450 million BrahMos package earlier this year. Additional discussions are ongoing with Thailand and other regional nations.
Developed jointly by India and Russia, the BrahMos missile can be launched from land, ships, submarines, or aircraft. Currently, 83% of its components are being indigenized as part of India’s domestic production push.
