Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call on Wednesday to discuss the outcome of last week’s Alaska summit between the U.S. and Russian presidents, along with bilateral relations and trade issues.
According to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, the two leaders reviewed “the outcomes of the Alaska summit and Türkiye-Russia bilateral relations, particularly trade ties,” during the conversation.
Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s ongoing role in efforts to end the war in Ukraine. “President Erdogan stated that he has been closely following developments related to the peace process, emphasizing that since the beginning of the war, Türkiye has sincerely strived to achieve a just peace, and in this regard, supports approaches that aim to establish lasting peace with the participation of all parties,” the statement said.
Putin, for his part, highlighted the importance of the Istanbul Process and expressed appreciation to Erdogan for hosting peace talks and supporting diplomatic efforts, the Directorate added.
The statement also noted that both presidents agreed on the importance of maintaining dialogue between the two countries.
