UAE-based defense conglomerate EDGE Group announced on Friday that it has completed the acquisition of AKAER, a Brazilian aerospace engineering company.
EDGE initially disclosed plans to acquire AKAER in July, aiming to strengthen its capabilities in unmanned aerial systems, optronics, electro-optical and infrared technologies, and space-related systems.
“The completion of this acquisition marks an important milestone for EDGE in Brazil. We look forward to AKAER’s continued contribution to Brazil’s defense ecosystem and to the strength its engineering talent brings to EDGE’s capabilities across the Group,” said Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group.
As part of the transaction, EDGE also announced that another Brazilian defense player, SIATT, would hold a minority equity stake, reflecting the corporate structure agreed for the acquisition to preserve AKAER’s status as an Empresa Estratégica de Defesa (EED).
AKAER is headquartered in São José dos Campos, São Paulo. Previously, the company has been closely working with EDGE on the development and industrialization of unmanned systems. Now, AKAER will provide EDGE with an engineering base and a team of specialists in Brazil.
