Türkiye's communication satellite Türksat 5B was launched into space two years ago today, on December 19, 2021, from the Cape Canaveral base in Florida, USA, with a Falcon 9 rocket belonging to SpaceX.
Türksat 5B reached its orbit at 42 degrees on May 17, 2022, after a five-month space journey, and successfully completed its tests and started service on June 14, 2022.
Türksat 5B
The production and tests of Türksat 5B were carried out by the French company Airbus Defence and Space according to the contract signed in November 2017.
The satellite, which weighs 4,500 kg, serves in a wide coverage area including Türkiye, the Middle East, the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea, the Mediterranean, North and East Africa, Nigeria, South Africa and its close neighboring countries.
Türkiye's satellite with the highest payload capacity
Türksat 5B, which is the most powerful of Türksat's satellite fleet with its payload capacity and power values, is in the high-efficiency satellite category with a capacity efficiency of at least 20 times higher than Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) class satellites.
Türksat 5B has a power capacity of 15 kilowatts, providing a total data transmission capacity of more than 55 Gbps with its Ka-Band payload.
Türksat 5B, which has a maneuvering life of more than 35 years, provides television broadcasting and broadband satellite communication services.
Domestic production equipment was used in Türksat 5B
Türksat 5B, which will increase Türkiye 's satellite data communication capacity Ka-Band capacity by more than 15 times, has effectively taken its place in commercial sectors such as maritime and aviation, where satellite communication is used.
With Türksat 5B, in which 2 communication equipment produced by ASELSAN were used within the scope of the Domestic Industry Contribution Program, domestically designed and produced equipment was sent into space for the first time in a commercial communication satellite.
