Czech defense and industrial group CSG has become a strategic investor in Canadian defense technology company North Vector Dynamics (NVD), expanding its portfolio in advanced air defense, counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS), precision-guided missiles and hypersonic technologies.
The companies did not disclose the value of the investment, but said the transaction raises NVD’s valuation to more than $90 million.
CSG described the investment as part of its long-term strategy to strengthen capabilities in technologies expected to play an increasingly important role in future military operations, including autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, advanced sensors and precision-guided interceptors.
“The nature of modern conflicts is changing rapidly. Autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, advanced sensors, precision guidance, and cost-effective air defence are becoming increasingly important,” CSG Chairman and CEO Michal Strnad said.
According to Strnad, CSG intends to become more than a financial investor by providing industrial expertise, manufacturing capacity and access to its commercial network across Ukraine, NATO member states and partner nations.
Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, North Vector Dynamics develops next-generation missile technologies for air and missile defense. The company is currently contracted by Canada’s Department of National Defence to advance hypersonic technologies.
Among its flagship products is the CM-70 counter-UAS missile, a precision-guided interceptor designed to defeat fast and highly maneuverable drones at a significantly lower cost than conventional guided missile interceptors. The missile features an open architecture intended to support integration with NATO command-and-control systems and existing layered air defense networks.
Beyond counter-drone systems, NVD is developing additional strike and interception technologies spanning multiple speed, range and payload categories using various sensing and propulsion technologies.
CSG said the investment complements its recent expansion into radar systems, air defense, air traffic management, autonomous platforms and propulsion technologies for missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
In addition to capital, the Czech defense group plans to support NVD through industrial cooperation, system integration opportunities and access to international defense markets, particularly within NATO.
“We are not simply looking for attractive companies, but for partners with the potential to significantly influence the future of defence technologies,” said Stanislav Kuba, CSG’s Investment Director.
North Vector Dynamics CEO and co-founder Dr. Paul Ziadé said the partnership would accelerate both the company’s growth and the operational deployment of its technologies.
“We share the same vision of rapidly building modern defence capabilities for Canada, NATO, and other allied nations, and we believe this partnership will significantly accelerate both the growth of North Vector Dynamics and the deployment of our technologies into operational use,” he said.
The investment also strengthens CSG’s presence in North America, which the company described as an increasingly important market for defense technology cooperation and industrial partnerships.
