Collins Aerospace, a business unit of RTX, has been awarded an $80 million contract to upgrade the avionics system of the U.S. Army’s Black Hawk helicopters under the H-60M MOSA Avionics Architecture Solution program.
The upgrade will incorporate Mosarc, a set of Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA)-compliant products developed by Collins Aerospace. This system is designed to enhance technology integration, allowing avionics updates to be implemented rapidly in response to evolving battlefield requirements.
According to Collins Aerospace, the Mosarc system will introduce an open systems architecture to the Black Hawk cockpit, facilitating the integration of new capabilities as operational demands evolve. The system is also intended to support joint and coalition operations by improving interoperability and enabling rapid deployment of technology in changing operational environments.
The implementation of Mosarc is expected to streamline upgrades and reduce sustainment costs over the helicopter’s lifecycle. Collins Aerospace aims to standardize avionics systems across the Army’s fleet of manned and unmanned aircraft, contributing to operational consistency and efficiency.
Work on the contract will be carried out in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Huntsville, Alabama.
