Turkish arms manufacturer CANiK said their remote-controlled weapon system can be used with armored vehicles as well as boats and ships thanks to its recoil force.
Ender Şaşal, General Coordinator at UNIDEF, a CANiK affiliate said in an interview with DefenseHere, “our track and remote-controlled weapons station together with 30mm x 113mm VENOM LR automatic cannon, is made of our group of companies AEI systems’ cannon and UNIROBOTICS company’s remote weapons station.”
“Thanks to its recoil force,” Şaşal explained that the remote weapons station “can be used with the armored vehicles and also the small boats and also the ships as well.”
The Electro-optic suite: “A great advantage”
Şaşal emphasized the electro-optic suite as the “most sophisticated part of the remote weapons station,” explaining that the “electro optic suite is independently stabilized from the remote weapons station itself, and it provides to 20 degrees right and left totally together with the field of view of the camera. It provides nearly 90-degree field of view without moving the weapon itself. So, it's a great advantage, especially for the ships moving through the friendly waters without moving the gun and they can observe around what's going on around.”
“The dispersion rate of the remote weapons station,” Şaşal noted “is really accurate because of the recoil force of this cannon itself” and he further described the station’s recoil force as around nine kilonewton (kN) for the cannon and around 3.5 to 4 kN for the 12.7mm gun.
“Any platform that can be equipped with the 12.7mm, can also be equipped by our 30mm x 113mm together with our remote-controlled weapons station” Şaşal added.
Identifying the Turkish air forces as their customer, Şaşal stated that the product “maybe will be in the market for the Far East countries as well.”
