BlueSpace showcases Romanian-made defense platforms and Turkish partnerships at BSDA 2026

Romanian defense technology company BlueSpace Technology used BSDA 2026 to highlight its growing portfolio of domestically produced military systems, ranging from tactical armored vehicles and assault boats to electromagnetic shielding solutions, while also unveiling new industrial cooperation initiatives with Turkish defense firms.

In an interview with Defensehere on the sidelines of BSDA 2026, Constantin Spinu, Business Development Director at BlueSpace Technology, outlined the company’s strategy of combining indigenous manufacturing, technology partnerships and localization efforts to strengthen Romania’s defense industrial base.

While BlueSpace is widely recognized as a regional supplier of electromagnetic shielding and TEMPEST protection technologies, Spinu said the company has expanded significantly into defense platforms and military mobility solutions.

“We have been able to secure an important part of the European market with our TEMPEST technology,” Spinu said, noting that BlueSpace exports its shielding solutions to customers across Europe, including Finland, Portugal and Spain.

At the exhibition, BlueSpace presented the VLAH light tactical armored vehicle, described by the company as the first Romanian-designed and Romanian-produced vehicle in its class. Developed in partnership with Slovakia’s Zetor Engineering, the 4×4 platform was created to meet Romanian operational requirements while establishing local industrial capabilities.

The VLAH vehicle features a maximum weight of 9.5 tons, including a 2.5-ton payload capacity, and is designed to support a wide range of military and security missions. According to BlueSpace, the platform provides ballistic protection compliant with STANAG 4569 Level 1 standards and mine protection at Level 2a.

Spinu emphasized that the project reflects Romania’s ability to develop advanced defense systems domestically while leveraging international expertise when needed.

The company also showcased the Trident T8 Combat Assault Boat, a high-speed tactical vessel that will be produced in Romania under a technology transfer agreement with a Ukrainian partner. The platform has already been tested in operational environments and can be configured for assault, patrol and special operations missions.

According to Spinu, the boat’s design incorporates enhanced survivability features, including buoyancy-enhancing materials that improve resilience against battle damage. The platform can be produced in multiple configurations ranging from 6.5 to 14 meters in length and can be equipped with various mission systems depending on customer requirements.

Beyond naval and land platforms, BlueSpace highlighted its growing role in electronic warfare and counter-drone technologies. One of the company’s portable jamming systems is already fielded by more than 300 military units within the Romanian armed forces, according to Spinu.

A key theme of the company’s presence at BSDA 2026 was international cooperation. Spinu confirmed that BlueSpace is strengthening ties with Turkish defense industry partners and announced cooperation with Otokar on future unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) developments.

The partnership forms part of a broader consortium involving Otokar, Elektroland Defence and BlueSpace Technology aimed at developing and producing modular UGVs and armored systems tailored for Romanian and wider European defense requirements.

“We are sure that we can learn from the Turkish experience and Turkish expertise,” Spinu said, adding that BlueSpace’s objective is to demonstrate that advanced defense systems can be produced in Romania at the same technological level as those manufactured elsewhere in Europe.

BSDA 2026 provided an important platform for showcasing these ambitions, with BlueSpace presenting a portfolio that spans cybersecurity-related technologies, electronic warfare systems, armored mobility platforms and naval solutions—reflecting the company’s broader goal of expanding Romania’s role within the European defense industrial landscape.
