The Austrian Ministry of Defense announced today the decision to select Embraer's C-390 Millennium aircraft as its new tactical transport solution.
Defence Minister Klaudia Tanner said the following during a news conference:
"Austria is aiming to buy about four of the aircraft for 130 million to 150 million euros ($138.6 million to $160 million) each, and is negotiating with the Netherlands on a potential joint order."
The purchase of the C-390 Millennium aircraft would replace Austria's fleet of Lockheed Martin's Hercules C-130s. The order for the C-390 Millennium aircraft is told to be placed in the first half of next year.
Embraer made the following statement:
"Embraer is honored to be chosen to support this important Air Force in Europe. Austria joins Brazil, Portugal, Hungary and the Netherlands as future operator of the C-390 Millennium multi-mission platform, an aircraft that is rapidly redefining the standards of tactical transport in the world defense market. Embraer is ready to support the Austrian Ministry of Defense and Air Force in order to meet the demanding requirements of their acquisition process and prepared to further strengthen the relationship with this nation."
