Poland has delivered a new batch of Baobab-K Scattered Mine Laying vehicles to the 18th Engineer Regiment in Nisko as the Polish Armed Forces continue expanding their combat engineering capabilities.
The vehicles, manufactured by a consortium led by Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW), a subsidiary of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), arrived at the regiment aboard low-loader transporters and will be assigned to the unit’s engineering battalion. Before entering operational service, the vehicles will undergo technical inspections ahead of field exercises.

Mounted on a Jelcz wheeled chassis, the Baobab-K is designed to rapidly scatter and deply anti-tank minefields in support of maneuver operations. A single vehicle can lay a minefield consisting of up to 600 anti-tank mines in less than 20 minutes while moving at speeds of up to 25 km/h. Mines are launched from six dispensers and can be deployed at distances of up to 90 meters from the vehicle.
The delivery follows the recent arrival of the first Baobab-K vehicles at the 16th Engineer Regiment in Orzysz. At the time, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz described the system as a proven product of Huta Stalowa Wola and reiterated that modernizing the armed forces through Poland’s domestic defence industry remains a government priority.
The Baobab-K programme is being carried out under a contract signed in 2023 between the Armament Agency, Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) and Huta Stalowa Wola. Valued at approximately PLN 510 million (gross), the agreement covers the delivery of 24 wheeled Baobab-K vehicles together with logistics and training packages between 2026 and 2028.
In addition to the wheeled variant, the Polish military ordered tracked Baobab-G mine-laying vehicles in December 2025. Earlier this year, the Armament Agency also signed an amendment to the original Baobab-K contract to procure additional vehicles, with the extra procurement financed through the European Union’s SAFE defence programme.
The continued deliveries form part of Poland’s broader effort to strengthen mobility, obstacle emplacement and defensive engineering capabilities as the country accelerates the modernization of its armed forces.
