EDGE Group and Italy’s Leonardo have announced plans to establish a joint venture in Abu Dhabi, aiming to develop high-end defense and aerospace technologies for global markets. The move signals a deepening of bilateral cooperation between the two companies.
The agreement was formalized during a recent visit to Abu Dhabi, with EDGE Chairman Faisal Al Bannai and Leonardo CEO Roberto Cingolani signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The planned joint venture is set to serve as a major technology hub, with a focus on integrating capabilities across multiple defense domains.
According to the companies, the partnership will cover areas such as naval command and control (C2) systems, ballistic missile defense, counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS), airborne solutions for maritime patrol aircraft, optronics, air defense, and high-performance computing electronics for missile systems.
The joint venture reflects broader efforts by the UAE to localize critical defense technologies while enhancing industrial ties with international partners.
