Boeing secures $2.47B KC-46A contract for USAF fleet expansion

USAF continues tanker modernization with 15 KC-46A Pegasus jets, enhancing airlift, refueling, and aeromedical evacuation missions worldwide

The U.S. Air Force has awarded Boeing a $2.47 billion Lot 12 contract for 15 additional KC-46A Pegasus aerial refueling aircraft, continuing the service’s long-term tanker modernization and fleet expansion efforts.

Program details

  • KC-46A Fleet Status: Over 150,000 flight hours logged; 183 aircraft either on contract or in service.

  • International Operators: 98 delivered to the U.S. Air Force, 6 to Japan Air Self-Defense Force, 4 contracted for Israel.

  • Capabilities: Multi-mission refueling, airlift support, aeromedical evacuation, and communications roles. Built with a digital flight deck, modern defensive systems, and advanced refueling architecture.

Modernization and production

Boeing highlighted ongoing upgrades to improve communications, situational awareness, and mission readiness. The Lot 12 award ensures production stability and long-lead supply chain support at Boeing’s Everett, Washington facility.

The KC-46A continues to be a cornerstone of the Air Force’s global tanker fleet, supporting Indo-Pacific and European Command operational needs while advancing interoperability and command-and-control capabilities for allied operations worldwide.
