The first 76-meter Offshore Patrol Vessel, built by DEARSAN Shipyard for the Nigerian Navy, was launched with a ceremony.
A contract was signed between DEARSAN and Nigeria on November 3, 2021 for 2 76-meter Offshore Patrol Vessels. Thirteen months after the contract, the first ship of the project met with the water.
The ceremony was attended by the Nigerian Delegation headed by Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, Vice President of Defence Industries Gökhan Uçar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of DEARSAN Aziz Yıldırım and many guests.
Offshore Patrol Vessel
The main tasks of the Offshore Patrol Vessels built for the Nigerian Navy are to carry out interception operations at sea, surface and air surveillance, provide naval fire support for land forces, perform special forces operations, conduct search and rescue, intelligence, escort duty in Nigerian territorial waters, as well as protect economic activities carried out at sea, including ports, platforms and artificial islands.
Also, the ships were designed to be equipped with appropriate modular sensors and weapons during the war, so that they could be converted into an effective warship.
