EPI, the cornerstone of precision engineering in the UAE’s aerospace, oil & gas, and defence industries, today announced their successful completion and delivery of a highly specialised oil & gas Logging While Drilling (LWD) tool for Weatherford International, one of the world’s largest, multinational oilfield service companies.
The announcement comes during the ongoing Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), held until 5 October at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
The drilling tool, successfully manufactured in the UAE, is made from the ‘Superalloy’ Incoloy 625, and spans 4.75 metres. The LWD tool has intricately machined sensor cavities, angular ports, a laser cladding coating, and localised shot peening, improving operational fatigue.
The tool is complete with highly geometric features, which required extreme accuracy and exceptionally precise engineering, including machining four and five axis slots and pockets, shot peening and burnishing, as well as exotic materials laser welding and machining.
