The Close Air Defense System Gökdeniz, developed and tested by ASELSAN, was integrated into the MİLGEM-5 frigate.
In addition to anti-ship missiles, Gökdeniz close-in weapon system can effectively defend against threats such as helicopters, planes, unmanned aerial vehicles and surface vehicles.
The Gökdeniz system stands out from its rivals in the fiercely competitive global market thanks to its superior features. While the Naval Forces of several foreign nations are paying close attention to the Gökdeniz System, manufacturing and acceptance efforts for export projects are still ongoing.
ATOM 35 mm Airburst Ammunition used by Korkut and Gökdeniz systems, which are categorized as point-defense weapon systems, creates a dense cloud of projectiles by splitting in front of the target thanks to its precise time-programmed fuse. Thanks to this feature, it enables barreled weapons to be highly effective against small and fast air targets.
Prof. Dr. Görgün: Far superior compared to other systems in the world
ASELSAN Chairman of the Board and General Manager Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün noted that the Gökdeniz System was developed to meet the needs of the Turkish Naval Forces Command, with ASELSAN's deep experience and know-how in close air defense. Emphasizing that Gökdeniz is produced entirely with domestic and national solutions, Prof Dr Görgün said, “The Gökdeniz System has not only eliminated dependence on foreign countries; It has performed much better than the equivalent foreign systems.”
Pointing out that the close air defense needs of the Turkish Naval Forces Command and the Naval Forces of other friendly and allied countries can be met effectively with this system, Prof Dr Görgün said, “The Gökdeniz Close Air Defense System stands out as a point defense system that can destroy anti-ship missiles targeting the ship it is stationed on. The system, which has a high effective range together with the 35 mm Airburst Ammunition (ATOM) developed by ASELSAN, allows both the Airburst ammunition and high-explosive incendiary ammunition to be loaded simultaneously and the desired ammunition to be selected according to the target type.
