Developed by Turkey's Kalekalıp company with domestic means, the machine gun KMG556 started mass production after successfully completing 34 qualification tests.
Some of the tests passed by KMG556, which is capable of firing 750-950 rounds per minute with 5.56 mm ammunition, are as follows;
ACCELERATED RAIN
A total of 3600 rounds are fired using 3 weapons under simulated heavy rain conditions
BELT PULL CAPACITY
22 rounds are fired on full auto while weighed down by (22 rounds included) 200 rounds (2.85 kg)
ICING
The weapon is fired after a 6mm-13mm of ice is built upon the exterior
RELIABILITY AND DURABILITY
A total of 3600 rounds of blank and 6000 rounds of tracer ammunition is fired using 3 weapons at -40°C, +50°C and 25°C separately
AMMUNITION COMPATIBILITY
A total of 3600 rounds of black and 6000 rounds of tracer ammunition is fired using 3 weapons at -40°C, +50°C and 25°C separately
DROP
The weapon is dropped from 1.5 m to concrete in 5 different positions to determine that the weapon is safe and durable
MUD
A weapon is dipped into mud before firing to simulate the performance of the weapon under extremely adverse conditions
ATTITUDE
This test is carried out to determine the weapons performance during use in different orientations
HIGH TEMPERATURE
A total of 12000 rounds are fired through 3 weapons after they are conditioned at +50°C during 40 cycles for a total duration of 25 hours
