MBDA, Europe’s leading developer of complex weapon systems, and its subsidiary Matra Electronique (MEL), have inaugurated a cutting-edge 4.0 factory in Venette, located in the Hauts-de-France industrial region. This milestone marks a significant step in enhancing Europe’s defense capabilities and advancing the local economy.
The new facility, operational since November 18, doubles MEL’s electronic component transfer capacity from 200,000 to 500,000 per week. This increase in efficiency supports both France’s ‘war economy’ and future defense programs across Europe.
Speaking at the inauguration, MBDA CEO Eric Béranger emphasized the importance of Matra Electronique’s contribution to the group’s mission. “Together, we are building a sustainable, innovative industrial model to meet sovereignty challenges in France, Europe, and beyond,” he stated.
The factory’s modular design, which expands the site area by one-third, allows MEL to quickly adapt to changing customer needs while minimizing its environmental impact. The workspace also offers employees a modern and attractive environment, bolstering the company's commitment to innovation and growth.
Frédéric Wilmot, Chairman of Matra Electronique and Industrial Director of MBDA France, added: “This new site strengthens our supply chain resilience and ensures our region remains a hub for cutting-edge expertise and essential jobs.”
Backed by the ‘France Relance’ program, the factory contributes to the local industrial ecosystem, creating a robust foundation for future extensions and supporting the development of sovereign defense technologies.
