Haritaevi Aviation Engineering Inc, an Ankara-based firm, has delivered its domestically-developed obstacle control analysis system for aviation safety management to Kenya, the company said in a press release Wednesday.
The project, which engaged a diverse team from interns to senior experts, showcases Haritaevi's commitment to advancing aviation safety.
It aims to significantly enhance aviation safety, streamline air traffic flow, and facilitate seamless data exchange. This initiative is expected to drive substantial progress across Africa, fostering rapid growth in the aviation safety sector.
The delivery came after Haritaevi Aviation secured the Obstacle Control Analysis System Tender issued by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) in August 2023, surpassing leading international competitors in aviation and geographic information systems sectors.
This achievement initiated a collaborative project with its local partner, Turk Tech Supplies, in Kenya.
Spanning approximately six months, the project aimed to enhance aviation safety and operational efficiency. The solution provided to Kenya facilitates identification, monitoring, and effective management of obstacles around aerodromes, involving key stakeholders such as airports, air traffic control units, and airlines. It enhances flight safety, optimizes air traffic flow, and supports critical data sharing.
The Obstacle Control Analysis System is crucial for ensuring compliance with inspections and regulations, optimizing airport infrastructure, and promoting operational excellence. It contributes to safe, efficient, and sustainable aviation operations.
Implemented within the KCAA, the system automates obstacle management and expedites manual analyses for aerodromes, enhancing its effectiveness through expert contributions.
Key functionalities include adding airports, heliports, obstacles, creating obstacle limitation surfaces, adding special areas, performing allowable height analysis, and conducting surface and infringement analysis. These features provide visualizations in map and table formats and support data import and export in 2D and 3D formats.
The system's infrastructure supports integration with various APIs, such as the elevation API developed by Haritaevi, enhancing its capability to manage elevation data effectively.
The project was completed on time and exceeded technical requirements. It operates with three different coordinate reference systems and aligns with ICAO standards and local regulations.
Haritaevi's Aeronautical Information Systems team contributed five full-time personnel, while the Aviation Engineering Services team provided two part-time personnel over the six-month period. Approximately 15 technical staff members from key departments of the KCAA received comprehensive on-site training.
The successful project deployment positions Haritaevi as a reference for other countries and authorities. The software's infrastructure is designed for global operation and easy integration.
This development also marks significant progress for Türkiye’s software exports. The project's success in Kenya is expected to support rapid growth and development in the aviation safety sector across Africa, demonstrating Haritaevi's technical expertise and commitment to global aviation safety standards.
