Patria, a leading Finnish defense industry company with roots spanning over 100 years in Finland's defense sector, has launched a new vehicle at the recent Eurosatory defense industry fair, which a company official has dubbed “game-changing” and “cost-effective.”
Timo Mennala, Patria Program Director, spoke to DefenseHere in an interview, introducing the company’s products, at the fair held in the French capital, Paris.
He explained that the main products of Patria include armored vehicles, protective mobility and defense solutions.
“We are strategic partners for the Finnish Defense Forces,” he said, responsible for land and naval units’ maintenance.
Mennala said that at Eurosatory, they have unveiled the new All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) concept developed under the FAMOUS program.
“This revolutionary vehicle combines the best practices of traditional articulated vehicles as well as the two-track light armored vehicles,” he said.
The European FAMOUS (Future Highly Mobile Augmented Armoured Systems) program aims to enhance the performance of armored vehicles with EU funding. The concept vehicle is a collaborative effort involving nine countries and 18 defense industry companies, spearheaded by Patria and Finland.
Patria’s achievement lies in superior operational and tactical mobility packaged into a game-changing product, ideal for Arctic, mountain, or motorized infantry units, the company official explained.
Explaining that they have been continuing the development efforts and that this product will soon be available on the market, offering cost-effective protected mobility solutions sought after by nations worldwide.
Among other highlights of Patria at the exhibition was the light six-by-six wheeled armored vehicle equipped with a 120-millimeter turret, setting global standards for firepower and accuracy in infantry units.
Additionally, he said, they have showcased their widely adopted 8x8 AMV vehicle, already delivered to various nations.
The Patria AMV is renowned for its modular design, accommodating various turrets, weapons, sensors, and communication systems across different configurations including APC, IFV, ambulance, and fire support versions armed with large caliber mortar and gun systems.
“Our portfolio also features state-of-the-art products for surveillance, maritime and mine sweeping purposes,” Mennala said.
Mennala added that they have already had discussions with those who are interested in their products at the fair and that their participation at the exhibition “have been absolutely successful.”
