The U.S. State Department has approved two potential foreign military sales to Saudi Arabia with a combined estimated value of $5.75 billion. The proposed packages include Joint Direct Attack Munition-Extended Range (JDAM-ER) systems and AGT-1500 engines.
The State Department authorized the possible sale of JDAM-ER systems for an estimated $5 billion, with U.S.-based Boeing designated as the principal contractor. The JDAM-ER integrates a wing kit with the existing JDAM guidance package, increasing the standoff range and precision strike capabilities of air-dropped munitions.

The $750 million AGT-1500 engine package
Additionally, the U.S. administration approved a proposed $750 million sale for AGT-1500 engines, which will be contracted to Honeywell. The AGT-1500 is a gas turbine engine primarily used to power the M1 Abrams main battle tank series and other military platforms.

U.S.: Will enhance Saudi Arabia’s defense capabilities
According to the State Department, the proposed sales will improve Saudi Arabia’s capability to meet current and future regional threats while enhancing interoperability with U.S. forces and other Gulf nations. The agency stated that the transactions support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by helping to improve the security of a major non-NATO ally.

The recent approvals follow another State Department authorization for the potential sale of Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System II (APKWS-II) precision-guided munitions to Saudi Arabia, valued at approximately $2 billion. That package included warheads, rocket motors, spare parts, training equipment, and logistical support services, with BAE Systems serving as the principal contractor.
