The U.S. Army has awarded defense giant Lockheed Martin a $1.2 billion contract for the company’s “early operational capability” Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) Increment 2 system, according to the Department of War.
PrSM Increment 2 is the Army’s initiative to develop a missile with a multimodal seeker capable of hitting moving targets at sea.
The work locations for the initial PrSM Increment 2 capability will be “determined with each order,” per the notice, with work scheduled for completion by September 13, 2031.
Lockheed Martin completed the first flight test of PrSM Increment 2 in March. The missile flew approximately 350 kilometers during the test after being launched from a M142 HIMARS launcher.
