General Atomics AeroTec Systems has highlighted progress in the Do228 NXT program, noting that the aircraft’s demonstrator was rolled out in June 2026 following the company’s acquisition of the Do228 program and its Oberpfaffenhofen production site in 2021.
In a social media post, the company said General Atomics acquired the Do228 series and the Oberpfaffenhofen production site in 2021 with the aim of reviving the aircraft family and restarting series production.
Linden Blue, CEO of General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI), reflected on the program’s development from the acquisition to the roll-out of the Do228 NXT demonstrator in June 2026, while also addressing the future of the aircraft.

General Atomics AeroTec Systems had previously announced the resumption of Do228 NXT series production at Oberpfaffenhofen, with plans for small-series manufacturing at the site. The company describes the Do228 NXT as a next-generation development of the Dornier 228 designed for passenger and special-mission roles.
